The Alliance of American Football (AAF) made their inaugural debut last weekend, and not only did fans turn on their TV’s to watch, they came out to see the action in person. That was especially true in San Antonio.
Having been thrown around in talks to receive a possible relocation team, the city had more fans (29,000+) show up to the San Antonio Commanders first home game than the Los Angeles Chargers, yes the NFL team, did at any home during their entire 2018-19 season.

In fact, the Commanders churned out 2,000 more than fans than the total capacity of the Stub Hub center, where the Chargers temporarily call home.
Ironically, the Commanders were taking on the San Diego Fleet in the game.
Since relocating to LA, Charger home games have had a hard time gaining fans in their new market with the Rams also in town, providing for notoriously hilarious photos of away fans flooding sections of the stadium, like this one…

And if that wasn’t enough evidence of how sad Chargers home games have been since the move, consider the Texas high school football class 5A state title game turned out nearly DOUBLE the amount of fans than at the most attended Chargers home game of the 2018-19 season.
The city of San Diego did receive their own AAF team, which had their first home game Sunday night. 20,000 showed up to see the game, which is a figure that could have been more if it wasn’t for the rain that game down before and during the game.
