Usually when you hear about a President tweeting about the NFL, it’s usually something controversial or insulting.
But that’s not what former President Barack Obama did.
In case you didn’t know, Long got a lot of praise for donating his entire 2017 salary to charity. He started by donating his first six game checks to fund scholarships in his hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Then Long chose to donate the rest of his checks to the “Pledge 10 for Tomorrow”, which will promote education equality in Philadelphia, Boston and St. Louis, the three NFL cities where he played in.
The amazing work was noticed by former President, who mentioned Long in a story about “what’s best for America”:
As we count down to the new year, we get to reflect and prepare for what’s ahead. For all the bad news that seemed to dominate our collective consciousness, there are countless stories from this year that remind us what’s best about America.

Chris Long gave his paychecks from the first six games of the NFL season to fund scholarships in Charlottesville, VA. He wanted to do more, so he decided to give away an entire season’s salary. That’s a story from 2017. https://t.co/NL0RoARkan

Long was “honored to be mentioned by Obama” and tweeted back to show his appreciation:
Honored to be mentioned, sir. And it’s been a pleasure. 🇺🇸

Based on what Long has done this year, perhaps he’ll be looking at a platform that’s much bigger than football after he retires.
