Cowboys backup QB Kellen Moore left Day 4 of the team;s training camp with a broken ankle, confirmed by team owner Jerry Jones.

Jones spoke with the Dallas Morning News following practice saying, “We’ll take a look at it and address it from here. I don’t have any comments about what if anything we’ll be doing.”

During the team portion of practice, the backup quarterback dropped back to pass and got his ankle rolled up on, per various reports.

Later Tuesday night, reports confirmed that Moore did in fact break his ankle when he rolled over it, and will require surgery to repair the right fibula. He’s expected to miss3-4 months.

The Cowboys have a recent history of being dangerously thin at quarterback, with starter Tony Romo proving to be one of the least durable QBs in the NFL.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has expressed the want to bring former Browns QB Johnny Manziel in, to which now would be the perfect time.

The Cowboys depth chart at QB now stands with Romo who’s coming off a year filled with back injuries subsequent surgeries as the starter, with rookie  Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott now elevated to second string.

If Jones were to hypothetically sign the troubled Manziel, the Cowboys would now have a league leading four suspended players on their roster, two over the allotted limit as specified by the NFL. The Cowboys was fined $250k last week when that number hit three.
