ESPN Cans Michele Beddle From ‘Get Up!’ Day After Saying She’s Boycotting Watching Football

A familiar face from ESPN’s new show ‘Get Up!’ will no longer be seen when Monday morning rolls around.

Michelle Beadle was canned from her show by the network Saturday after criticizing Ohio State’s handling of Urban Meyer, adding the she plans to no longer watch either college or NFL football.

While discussing the recent OSU scandal involving Meyer’s handling of WR Coach Zach Smith and his instances of domestic violence, Beadle ripped OSU and the current state of both college and professional football in respect to the treatment of women.

“There’s a reason why this will be the second season I don’t watch NFL and I don’t spend my Saturdays watching college football either,” Beadle said on the Aug. 23 show, per Yahoo Sports. “I believe that the sport of football has set itself up to be in a position where it shows itself in the bigger picture to not really care about women — they don’t really care about people of color, but we won’t get into that for NFL either — but as a woman I feel like a person who has been marginalized.”

“And every single one of these stories that comes out, every single time, pushes me further and further away,” she continued. “I realize they don’t care, but for me it’s opened up my weekends. I appreciate you for giving that to me. I don’t care anymore. I’ve lost the ability to be surprised.”

ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro has made it known that he’s working towards repairing the relationship between his network and the NFL, with Beadle’s comments certainly going against such strides.

Beadle will remain in her position as host of “NBA Countdown” and will host a new post-game show, “NBA After the Buzzer” during the NBA season.
