Abiola Aborishade is doing everything he can to get himself at least a tryout with the New England Patriots including standing outside Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass, almost every weekday since April 21st.
The former UMass Dartmouth wide reciever set a school record when he caught 84 balls in 2014 and averaged 112 all-purpose yards per game during his three-year collegiate career.
According to Kevin Duffy of MassLive.com, Aborishade comes twice a day, before adn after work, holds a sign that reads: “talented hardworking athlete hoping for a chance to prove myself.”
Aborishade says Patriots players Jordan Richards, Rob Ninkovich and Malcolm Butler have stopped to talk to him on their way into the facility, but there has been no tryout yet. He, also has no plans to give up, though:
“A lot of people have a Plan B. I don’t really believe in Plan B’s. I believe that if you have a goal, go at it as hard as you can. Once you’ve done everything you possibly can to reach that Plan A, even if it doesn’t work out the way you want to, then you move on to another Plan A.”
This isn’t the first time someone has done something like this, in 2015, linebacker Monte Gaddis got a meeting with then-Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer after he waited outside the Browns facility every day. The Jets actually signed free agent wide receiver Joe Anderson after he also waited outside the Texans facility with a sign asking for an opportunity.
Time will tell if Aborishade gets that opportunity, as of now, it seems unlikely, but that’s not stopping him.
