Giants Owner John Mara “Disappointed” With WR Odell Beckham Jr., Won’t Commit To Him Being A Giant In 2018

Recently, a video leaked of Odell Beckham Jr. with a model, pepperoni pizza and what looks to be drugs in a Paris hotel room that does not sit well with Giants owner John Mara and the result of it has not only jeopardized the long-term contract the star wide receiver desires, but it might have jeopardized his place on the team:

During the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Florida on Sunday, Mara spoke to reporters and was asked about the latest off-field behavior and the impact it would have on Beckham’s status with the Giants in 2018:

“I can’t answer that one way or another, we’re certainly not shopping him if that’s what you’re asking. But again, when you’re coming off a season where you’re 3-13 and played as poorly as we played, I wouldn’t say that anybody is untouchable.”

“I think too often he allows himself to get put in bad situations,” Mara said. “He needs to use a little better judgement.

“I still believe that he’ll be able to show us what we expect of him,” Mara said. “But again, it’s up to him.”

Mara said he hasn’t spoken to Beckham since the video was leaked, but did mention new Giants head coach Pat Shurmur met with Beckham last week when the coach was out in California scouting Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold.

Mara did say that the contract “will get done when it’s supposed to get done.” But when asked if he still believed that it would definitely get done, he hedged, saying “I think at some point, but who knows?”

Odell Beckham Jr., on the other hand is entering the final year of his 5-year rookie contract where he is set to around $8 million.
