After draft pick after draft pick has been signed to rookie contracts, somehow, the #3 pick of them all still remains.

The San Diego Chargers and Joey Bosa have been in a stalemate regard contract negotiations ever since his named was called, and it’s seemingly getting uglier by the day. The two sides haven’t talked since exchanging contract proposals July 28.

The 21-year-old’s mother, Cheryl Bosa, expressed her frustration Sunday about the ongoing contract dispute between the team that drafted her son and her son himself.

Cheryl Bosa left a Facebook comment on a feed regarding the matter on Sunday afternoon that was later source identified as authentic. It reads “It bums me out for him so much,” she wrote to a friend. “Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day.”

The reference of course points back to the 2004 NFL draft where the Chargers prepared to draft Eli Manning only to have Archie Manning, his father, stiff arm the team’s plan, saying his son will not play for the franchise. The team ultimately drafted Manning first overall anyway only to trade him to the Giants in a package featuring quarterback and No. 4 overall pick Philip Rivers.

Bosa has not yet requested a trade and according to sources does not plan to do so, even with Cheryl’s comments alluding to such.

The contract disputes between the team and Bosa will presumably continue into the preseason, as the Chargers will hold their seventh practice of training camp Monday at 3 p.m. with Bosa holding out.

  1. Jesus how is any team expected to get better if elite players just whine about the team they get drafted by. Be a man and MAKE the team great. Don’t whine like Eli did and go to a different team.
