If you were listening closely during Monday Night Football’s Giants vs Eagles Broadcast, you may have heard something a little odd out of the mouth of Jon Gruden.

Gruden called backup Giants running back Shane Vereen “one of the best receiving black backs in football.”

The racial equivalent of a Freudian slip did not go unnoticed on social media. Fellow broadcaster Mike Tirico goes right along without correcting Gruden, who is well known for his Monday night rants.

  1. People take shit way to serious, he misspoke saying receiving back and said black by mistake then corrected himself which came out black back. This is why everything is broken in this country. The media is so messed up it isn’t even funny.

    • True, but at the same time, a commentator, should have the awareness of noticing it, and apologizing. Not because he did anything wrong, but because it might rub a few people the wrong way. (and I’m not even talking about the people who think getting offended is a sport)

  2. WAHHH!!! I’M OFFENDED BECAUSE AN ANNOUNCER ON TV MIS-SPOKE AND IT KINDA SOUNDED LIKE HE SAID SOMETHING THAT I MIGHT FIND OBJECTIONABLE! WAHHH TIME TO GRAB MY BULLHORN AND YELL TO THE MASSES ABOUT HOW OFFENDED I AM!!! BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT OFFENDING PEOPLE IS A CAPITAL OFFENSE NOW!! WAHHHH!!!

  3. What did he say wrong if he did say black back? Is he black and a receiver then what the hell is the problem? People need to get a life and worry about what you do and no one else.

  4. Why should he have to apologize? We watch live tv all the time and see commentators, news anchors, presidents, etc stubble and misspeak words. I don’t expect an apology from each and everyone of them. I think it’s getting blown out of proportion. Now if he misspoke the N word, then we can talk.
