Ontario Politician To Lower Price Of Beer To $1 After Being Elected

In what seems like the equivalent of a student offering no homework if elected class president, Ontoon PC Leader Doug Ford has promised to lower the floor of beer prices to a mere $1.

Ford, who’s dubbed it “buck-a-beer”, plans to promote competition within the  market as well as putting an end to the bloated prices manufactured by alcoholic beverage companies. He says in 2008, beer companies backed by the Liberal government, raised the minimum price floor for beer, in turn discouraging competition.

“For too long beer consumers have been forced to pay inflated prices for beer in order to increase the profits of big corporations.” says Ford. “We’re going to allow price competition for beer and this will save consumers money.”

“If a brewer wants to offer you a buck-a-beer, there is no reason for government to stand in the way,” he said.

Ford says since beer taxes are volumetric, the buck-a-beer plan won’t impact government revenues.

The PCs have also committed to expand the sale of beer and wine to corner stores.
