Police To Pay NFL Fine For Titans LB Wearing 9/11 Cleats Tomorrow (PICS)

If there’s one thing the NFL is a sticker about it’s their uniforms policy.

Everything from the inch-wide stickers on the backs of helemts to the color of a player’s shoe laces have to by the book or a player can expect a hefty fine in the mail following the game.

Tennessee Titans linebacker Avery Williamson had planned to do something on Week 1 come Sunday that would be an infraction of that policy, day which falls on September 11th.

Williamson planned to wear custom 9/11 Memorial cleats, which were blue with white stars, and had red and white stripes coloring a Nike logo:

The fancy footwear also had the words, ‘Never forget’, and ‘9.11.01’ on the back of each shoe.

Figuring the 23-year-old would be fined and in an awesome gesture of patriotism, the police department responsible for patrolling the World Trade Center site as well as two other Police unions in New York and New Jerses said they would pay the fine given to Williamson or any player fined for their 9/11-themed apparel.

‘I don’t want to draw negative attention, so I’m just going to focus on playing the game,’ Williamson told The Tennessean on Friday.

‘Once I heard from them, I didn’t even try to argue anything. I just left it alone. I didn’t want to press the issue.’
