The NFL allows players to wear their hair in whatever style they choose, including a popular one of long dreads which go past the name on the back of the jersey, but players would do so at their own risk, as a player’s hair is considered part of the uniform.
Early in the 4th quarter of Sunday’s game, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman came up with a pick against the Baltimore Ravens. As Ravens receiver Chris Matthews went to make the tackle, he reached and grabbed a handful of hair, using it to drag Sherman down to the ground.
