Ryan Shazier’s long road to recovery is headed in the right direction.

It’s been one month since the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker suffered his spine contusion while making a tackle against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football, and for the first time since that night, Shazier has regained feeling in his legs.

“He’s making progress daily. He’s a long way from where he was on that Monday night,” said Vernon, who declined to say whether his son can walk but indicated he believes Ryan will play football again.

Vernon also discussed his feelings hours after Ryan’s injury.

“When your child is laying there in a situation like this, I was wishing and hoping I could switch positions with him,” Vernon said. “When he went down, all of us went down with him.”
