This Stat About Russell Wilson’s Contract Shows How Much The NFL Has Grown Over The Last 25 Years

This off-season was a good one for Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson.

Wilson signed a four-year,  $140 million, with $107 million guaranteed that not only made him the highest paid player in NFL history but his $35 million annual salary is more than the league’s first-ever salary cap season back in 1994:

It’s a sign of just how insanely popular the NFL has gotten that Russell Wilson, who one could argue isn’t even the top player in the league is now making more per year than an entire NFL roster was allowed to be paid in 1994.

Just imagine if the NFL didn’t have a salary cap or the luxury of the franchise tag to keep players under contract instead of hitting the free agent market and allowing two, three or even four teams bidding for their services!
