  1. by the time he bent down the LB was already in mid air. The LB led with the shoulder and intended to go for the hip. hoyer put himself in a bad position by bending down and not sliding directly. This is a non biased answer seeing as how i root for neither team.

  2. He was too slow to start sliding, so he hadn’t ‘given up’ yet, hit is legal in that aspect.
The linebacker was already mid tackle before he even started to ‘give up’, hit is legal in that aspect.
From the other angle, you can see he was leading with his shoulder, not helmet, so the hit is legal in that aspect.
From the other angle, you can see it wasn’t helmet to helmet, it was his arm/shoulder that hit him, hit is legal in that aspect.
It wasn’t a late hit, hit is legal in that aspect.
Could you call it a dirty hit? Sure, but an illegal one? No. Regardless of how YOU feel about it, in the end there’s a rule book, and no rules were broken. This was Hoyer’s fault, he made a rookie mistake and put himself in a very bad situation.
