49er Fans Unhappy About Seahawk Colored Transit Trains

The city of San Francisco will soon be getting some new trains for the region’s Bay Area Rapid Transit system, but one aspect seemingly so unimportant has 49ers fans furious-the trains’ interiors are decked out in Seattle Seahawks colors.

The seats feature a chartreuse and saturated slate blue, almost exactly replicating the bitter rivals uniforms. One Niner fan has even started a Change.org petition for the BART authority to change the color of the seats before the project is launched.

“The Seattle Seahawks are the chief rivals of the San Francisco 49ers. To outfit BART car seats in the team colors of the Seattle Seahawks (i.e. neon green and blue) is an outrage and a slap in the face of every San Francisco 49ers fan who rides BART. I call upon BART General Manager Grace Crunican (who oddly enough worked as Director of the Seattle Department of Transportation prior to joining BART) to scrap plans to adorn BART car seats in neon green and blue and instead choose other colors.”

As of 10:15 a.m. Saturday, just more than 85 people had signed the online petition and as of today (Monday) the signatures are in the thousands. Screen Shot 2014-04-21 at 11.20.54 AMScreen Shot 2014-04-21 at 11.22.05 AM

The new trains are not yet in service and aren’t scheduled to be in use until after testing in 2017. In the meantime, Bay Area residents will have plenty of chances to complain about the Seahawks colors at a series of public viewings.
