Newest Sports Illustrated Cover Features Blatant Uncalled Broncos’ Holding Penalty

Patriots fans everywhere were furious about the poor officiating during the hyped Broncos – Patriots matchup last week where the Broncos came back and took the game in overtime. They may be even more now.

We’re not sure if Sports Illustrated is trolling Pats fans at this point, but the newest edition of the popular magazine released features a blatant holding penalty that went uncalled, most likely preventing a more heavy pressure of possibly a sack from Patriots DT Dominique Easley (pictured as #99)

The Broncos’ backup, now interim starting QB Brock Osweiler in place of the injured Peyton Manning graces the cover after making on his second start in the NFL, and it is titled ‘Brock On.’

          I say 13.5-0 because in the AFC Championship game the footballs were put back to normal inflation and Brady played better. Sorry but your excuses are very lame.

        • Deflategate was only an issue because the Colts wanted it to be, no one else actually gave a shit, but you buy anything that gives an excuse to your team. Spygate.. well, guess what, whoever your favorite team is they did it, too. The Jets were upset that the Patriots caught them doing it and kicked them out of their stadium and so they reported it to the NFL.

          How was the Tuck Rule the Patriots fault? That was before they knew of the legend of Vinatieri, or Brady was even a long-term starter. The call wasn’t banned from the NFL, but an established for years after the call. Sure, the Patriots cheated, but so does every team in the NFL. Quit crying and enjoy one of the best coaches and QBs of all-time.

    • Fans have been criticizing the refs all season. They’ve been absolutely brutal, and the way the Denver-Pats game was officiated was one of the more terrible ones I’ve seen all year. Is it too much to ask them to be consistent? (probably)

        • The officiating has been especially terrible in the NFL this season. All fans have been complaining about it, not just Patriots fans. What I was saying earlier was that Patriots fans have been critical of the officiating even when they’ve won, it’s not just some crutch or excuse to bring up simply because they finally lost some games–it’s been going on all year. You are lying to yourself if you believe the officials have been doing a good job this year… losing track of downs, not paying attention to the play clock, not knowing the rules of the game, screwing up replay reviews, being horribly inconsistent with ruling what’s a catch and what isn’t, inconsistently calling holding penalties and offensive pass interference penalties, the list goes on and on.

  4. Patriots fans are just like the team. If things don’t go their way they cry like babies. They can’t accept that their team got beat and their quarterback isn’t as good as they think he is. They call pretty boy Brady the best quarterback ever, but put him with a different coach and different players and he’d barely be mediocre.

    • And different players…you mean like having Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Edgerrin James for most of his career rather than David Givens, Reche Caldwell and Antowain Smith? You know, it’s one thing to not like the guy, but when you make comments like that, your lack of knowledge of the sport shows greatly…

      • Why not bring up the defense, special teams, and offensive line….ya know, the rest of the team? Not to mention, coaching. Why do you think the Patriots are game-plan specific but not many other teams are? You’d think if everyone had the “inferior personnel” of the Patriots that other teams would just mimic what they do….oh but it’s cause they have Brady! Pffft. Learn how to play football. Offensive line versatility and depth.

        • I could’ve said that in a less rude way, I apologize. I just get frustrated when people just look at QBs and skill position players. You aren’t even looking at the tip of the iceberg that is a NFL game.

          • I was just going off what the original poster said of “put him with different players and he’s mediocre.” Putting him with different defenders wouldn’t really alter the way he’s directly looked at.

    • Brady has the most yardage, touchdowns, and the fewest interceptions of any quarterback in the league this season. Like him or not, he is, by nfl stats, the best quarterback in the leage this season. And every team complains about the officiating. I have seen some pretty bad calls from the refs against my team. The absolute worse was an opposing team getting a touchdown because the players helmet crossed the goal line and not the ball. It is a relatively common knowledge fact that the refs can call holding on every play. They usually only call it when the player ends up taking the guy to the ground. As one of my favorite players once said “A bad ref call didn’t beat us. We beat us, by allowing ourselves to be in a game situation where a bad ref call would hurt us. We should have played better so the game wasn’t that close!” Lawence Taylor.

    • It is simply astounding that there are still people that don’t understand that TB is a once-in-a-lifetime generational player. Look in the mirror, Neil; you’re the one that can’t accept that he’s an incredible quarterback. The one thing that people underrate about Brady is his consistency–never has he had a season with more than 14 INTs, he’s proven he can play in all types of weather conditions, and he’s always had tremendous pocket presence and awareness ever since he took over for Bledsoe. Here’s a history lesson for you–It’s no accident that Bill Belichick decided to keep Brady on the roster his rookie season as a fourth string QB (which is almost unheard of now), essentially wasting a roster spot for the entire season, because he saw something in Brady that made him decide to keep him on the team, and within a year, the only thing keeping Brady from being the starter was the fact that Bledsoe had more experience and had just signed a multi-year deal. Belichick has actually said that Brady played better than him in camp and during the preseason before the start of the 2001 regular season. The fact that Bledsoe never got his job back after he got hurt in Week 2 just goes to show that Brady was always ready for his opportunity, and make no mistake, his work ethic is so insane that he would have succeeded wherever he was drafted. The Patriots went 8-8 in 1999 and they were heading in the wrong direction, going 5-11 after that. They started out 0-2 in 2001, expectations were very low, and at the time Brady took over as the starting QB, the Patriots were not a good team. They didn’t just turn into a good team after Brady took over, they turned into a dynasty.

      Btw, I fully accept that the Patriots lost against Denver, but I also acknowledge that the team everyone watched that Sunday night won’t be the same team 5 weeks from now when they get a bunch of their key players back. I’m sure the same could be said for a lot of other teams, but the Patriots had their bye week in week 4, and the attrition of the NFL season has caught up to them at this point. It’s probably a blessing in disguise that some of their key guys are going to be fresher when they come back to play. Health is arguably the most important asset to have going into the playoffs.
