Vontaze Burfict Delivered A Far Dirtier Hit Last Week That Nobody’s Talking About

v

Vontaze Burfict was hit with a harsh three-game suspension this afternoon from the league for his hit on Antonio Brown that left him concussed. The linebacker lower this shoulder and launched toward the receivers helmet when the ball was headed far over his head.

The suspension will cover the first three regular season games of the 2016-2017 NFL season, and is partially due to Burfict’s history and reputation as a dirty player. Ever since college at Arizona State, Burfict has been dealing with issues with controlling his behavior, a red flag which flew high enough for many teams to pass on him. He has been hit with over $150k in fines from the NFL for multiple offensives ever since coming into the league, most notably his attempt to twist the ankles of Panthers’ Cam Newton and Greg Olsen after the play ended.

Considering the primetime, playoff stage of the night when the play warranted the suspension happened, the NFL had to act and attempt to get it right, after a long resume of not when it comes to assessing suspensions. But during a game which not nearly as many people saw, Burfict delivered this brutally dirty hit on a Ravens receiver, lancing his helmet directly into the opposing player’s with reckless abandon.
