Nearly a year after his devastating July 4th fireworks accident that left him with a permanently damaged hand, New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is speaking out against the dangers of fireworks and pyrotechnics.
Pierre-Paul teamed up with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to release this public service announcement ahead of next week’s July 4th holiday:
JPP’s accident led to the amputation of his right index finger and loss of parts of his middle and thumb fingers. He also missed the first eight games of the 2015 season.
Somehow, he was able to return to the field but was clearly limited due to the fact he had to wear a large cast on his damaged hand. Pierre-Paul was still able to register 26 tackles and one sack.
This past offseason, Pierre-Paul resigned with the Giants and has vowed to ditch the large cast.
