Bears quarterback Connor Shaw was taken to the hospital following Saturday’s game because of a broken leg suffered late in the fourth quarter.

Shaw’s left leg gruesomely and awkwardly folded when he was hit by the Chiefs’ Rakeen Nunez-Roches. He was placed in an air cast and carted off the field.

“It’s a tough break,” said receiver Alshon Jeffery, who attended South Carolina with Shaw. “He was having a hell of a camp. He was doing a hell of a job out there. You hate to see any teammate go down, but I know him personally being with him in college. But he’s a fighter. He’s going to come back.”

Shaw had seemingly cemented himself as the Bears’ third quarterback — either on the roster or practice squad. He played the past two preseason games, while David Fales did not. Saturday, Shaw went 5-for-6 for 68 yards and the team’s only touchdown, a 16-yard pass to Cameron Meredith.
