The first tangible stage to Tim Tebow’s hope of making an MLB team started today. The former college football and NFL star held an open showcase at USC this morning, with all 30 MLB teams invited, 27 of which showed up.

During the workout, Tebow performed numerous skills and athletic drills including a 60 yard dash, out-fielding drills and live hitting. Tebow took hacks against 2 righty retired big league pitchers, allegedly hitting a monster home run into the parking garage over the right field fence. Tebow ran the 60 yard dash in 6.6 seconds, the same times as MLB stars Derek Jeter and Bryce Harper. Tebow, who is noticeably stronger, blasted 1 430ft home run, but didn’t fair too well with the off-speed stuff.

Even before his workout, Tebow was offered a contract from a Venezuelan winter-ball team. We’ll have to wait and see if a big league team offers him a spot on their roster of one of their minor league affiliates.
