Christian McCaffrey Skips On Stanford’s Sun Bowl Game To Focus On The NFL Draft

Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey will skip out on the Hyundai Sun Bowl to focus on his preparation for next May’s NFL Draft, he announced Monday morning on Twitter.

In early December, McCaffrey announced that he would forgo his senior season to enter the NFL Draft, but did say, he will plan on returning to Stanford to earn his degree in communications.

McCaffrey joins LSU running back Leonard Fournette as another high-profile prospect to sit out their teams respective Bowl Game. Fournette announced Friday that he would not play in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31 against Louisville.

“We understand that this was a very difficult decision. For three years Christian has not only been a great player, but a great teammate as well,” Stanford coach David Shaw said in a statement. “We wish him great success at the next level, as we continue our preparation for the Sun Bowl.”

Stanford faces North Carolina in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 30.
