One of the primary reasons the Pro Bowl has become so tough to watch is the players looking out for their own futures, taking play at an easy, seemingly disinterested pace – and how can you blame them, especially after videos like this.
On February 5th during the 1999 Rookie Beach Bowl, a 4-on-4 flag football tournament as part of the Hawaii Pro Bowl festivities, Patriots first round draft pick Robert Edwards destroyed his knee on Fort De Russy Beach.
Going up for a pass against Rookies Charles Woodson and R.W. McQuarters, Edwards’ knee gave out as it hit the sand. Not only did it end his incredibly promissing career, doctors nearly had to amputate his lower leg.
The NFL decided to change to an Alumni Legends format in future years, and would never host another beach bowl again.
