All professional athletes know most things he or she say on social media, especially Twitter are going to have some backlash. Derek Carr wasn’t expecting this to be one of them.
The Raiders QB, who’s spending his offseason rehabbing from a broken leg, sent out this tweet praising a child for earning money to pay for college (when the time comes) by collecting recyclables.
Saw that a 7 year old is collecting recyclables so he can pay for college.. has made 10k. Get off your tail and go work hard 4 what you want

The tweet prompted quite a few people who took offense…
@derekcarrqb I too am pro-child labor

If you go to can boy’s site it becomes clear that it’s his parents’ recycling business and Ryan is mostly a marketing tool.

@derekcarrqb Aluminum can is most valuable. $.82/lb. 34 cans/lb. $10k/.82=12195lbs. 12195*34=414,630 cans. I do not believe a 7 yo did that.

Just saw a 10 year old is gluing on a fake beard and walking in stilts to work as a longshoreman for lunch money. What’s your excuse?

@derekcarrqb my 9 month old son crushes aluminum cans with his teeth all day to help pay my student loans
— Antifa Jeb (@neaterguyonline) February 9, 2017
@derekcarrqb So a parent is bringing their kid along on a sub minimum wage job to pay for his college. That shouldn’t have to happen, dude.

— googling mons pubis (@agoodstrongwife) February 9, 2017
@derekcarrqb Yeah, because children should spend their free time doing menial tasks instead of playing, learning, and living happy.

@derekcarrqb Nothing screams “I’m a Christian” quite like voicing your approval of child labor.

@derekcarrqb Think before you tweet sir. Please.

@derekcarrqb Privileged much? Many do work 40 hrs/wk & still can’t make ends meet. Maybe they aren’t working hard enough? Advice needed.
