The NFL’s stance on player safety in regard to hits on defenseless receivers has tightened, but it has clearly gone too far.
During the Cowboys-Packers game Sunday, Dallas was granted 15 yards on what would have been a 4th down after officials called a Green Bay linebacker Blake Martinez for coming across the middle and grazing WR Dez Bryant with his arm as he dropped a pass.
What an awful, awful call by the refs. Blake Martinez’s arm hits Dez and they call it helmet to helmet. A 4 point swing. #Packers #Cowboys pic.twitter.com/OTtEWjcD3b

The possession resulted in a touchdown instead of presumably a field goal, a four point swing directly due to the referee’s poor officiating.
