Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson said he needed to have his jaw realigned as a result of a hit he took from Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby during the Seahawks 22-16 victory over the Cardinals last Thursday.

Wilson is very fortunate to have avoided a fractured jaw:

“It was pretty close, the doctor was like, ‘Man, any harder, we probably [would have] had to wire your mouth shut,’ so that was a good thing that didn’t happen.”

The hit took place in the third quarter and Dansby was later fined $18,231.00 by the NFL. Wilson was sent off the field by referee Walt Anderson to be evaluated for a possible concussion then returned after missing one play without being examined, which has not led to an investigation by the NFL to look into whether the team followed proper protocol.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has said the team is cooperating with the league’s investigation and declined to discuss any specifics of the matter.

Wilson made light of the situation with this Instagram post:

My Jaw is hurt and Dr. is making me wear this to fix and realign my disc in my jaw. #Brutal #Jaws #MyFaceHurts
