When it’s all said and done, a case could be made that Bill Belichick is not only the greatest coach in NFL history, but the greatest coach in American sports history.
But despite being that, there is still one guy the Patriots head coach would hate to go up against and it’s one guy he’s gone up against before.
Alabama’s Nick Saban.
As part of an in-depth piece of the friendship between Nick Saban and Bill Belichick by The MMQB’s Jenny Vrentas, Belichick gave major props to Saban by saying he wouldn’t want to coach against him again:
“I mean, I wouldn’t want to face him,” Belichick says. “Obviously, if the circumstances fell that way, then we would compete against each other like we did in ’05 and ’06. But I’m not going to sit here and tell you that I would look forward to that. It would be tough; it would be very challenging.”
Saban and Belichick’s ties go way back. From 1991-94, Saban served as Belichick’s defensive coordinator in Cleveland and in 2005-06, when Saban was the coach of the Miami Dolphins, the two squared off four times, splitting their four match-ups, 2-2.
While it’s highly unlikely these two square off again, one can imagine the ultimate chess match that would be.
