The Baltimore Ravens have arguably the biggest leg in the NFL in Justin Tucker on their squad, and they’re trying to take advantage of it while they can.
With amendments to the kickoff rules seemingly every offseason at this rate in order to theoretically increase player safety, the Ravens are continuing to propose a rule that would award a team kicking off a bonus point if the ball travels through the uprights on the opposite side of the field – a novelty cool novelty in today’s game but nothing more.
Adding such a rule has it’s pros and cons. We would likely see even fewer returns based on teams opting to kick it as far as they can trying to get the point as well as game being able to be swayed by a single point via an otherwise meaningless kickoff. On the contrary, the rule would likely further push the agenda of player safety.
With that said, it’s unlikely ever such a rule will be implemented in the near future.
