Excitement from Cowboys fans was short lived Monday when their team had traded for WR Amari Cooper, giving up a first-round pick in doing so.
Likely desperate to fill a need after losing a critical division game to the Washington Redskins Sunday, Jerry Jones pulled the trigger on a move that would send the Cowboys 2019 first-round pick to the Oakland Raiders in return for Amari Cooper, ironic considering Cooper’s production is similar to that of Dez Bryant, who they released this offseason.
In addition to leading the league in drops last season, over the course of Cooper’s last 28 games, the WR has mustered only 101 receptions, 1,326 yards, and 11 TDs. In the same span, he’s only had 5 games of 100 or more receiving yards, 16 games under 40 rec. yards, 9 games under 20 yards & 14 games w/ 3 receptions or less.
Parallel to the not so favorable eye-test of the trade, SportsLine crunched the numbers and revealed that the trade for Cooper increased the Cowboys’ chance to make the playoffs this season by a whopping 0.0%.
