Alex Smith suffered one of the most gruesome injuries you’ll see in football if not all of sports on Nov. 18 of last year, and the number of surgeries backs that up.

After suffering compound fractures while being sacked by J.J. Watt during a game against the Texans last season, Smith has undergone a whopping 17 surgeries in effort to repair his right leg and battle the infections he suffered during recovery.
Smith has been spotted in multiple braces and contraptions since, the first of which is quite the site with rods and screws poking out in multiple places.

Smith was seen walking under his own power at FedEx Field prior to a game against the Bears this season.
