Madden Adds Colin Kaepernick Back Into Video Game For First Time Since 2016

Colin Kaepernick won’t be on an NFL roster when the season kicks off in two days, but he will be in an NFL video game.

The infamous quarterback who has been out of the league since 2016 on the back of his protests during the National Anthem has been added in Madden 21 as a free agent, his first appearance in the franchise since he opted out of his contract with the 49ers in 2016.

Kaepernick is listed as the top free-agent QB available with an overall rating of 81, making him the 15th best quarterback out of the 111 QBs included in the game.

EA Sports issued the following statement to The Undefeated:

“Colin Kaepernick is one of the top free agents in football and a starting-caliber quarterback. The team at EA SPORTS, along with millions of Madden NFL fans, want to see him back in our game.

“Knowing that our EA SPORTS experiences are platforms for players to create, we want to make Madden NFL a place that reflects Colin’s position and talent, rates him as a starting QB, and empowers our fans to express their hopes for the future of football. We’ve worked with Colin to make this possible, and we’re excited to bring it to all of you today.”ADVERTISEMENT
