49ers HC Kyle Shanahan Calls Out Jimmy G After Loss To Cardinals: “He Has To Play Better”

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had a rough game in Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Santa Clara, California.

The 49ers were trailing late in the fourth quarter, driving with a chance to win the game. As the 49ers got close to the goal line, Jimmy G had two passes broken up by Arizona Cardinals defenders. If Garoppolo made better throws, the 49ers may have won the game.

Following the game, 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan didn’t have much to say about the loss, but admitted that Jimmy G needs to play better if the 49ers want to return to the Super Bowl:

“Yeah, he had some good plays in there, but just like the entire offense, just missed a number of opportunities that it was going to take to win that game. We had a couple there, but he’s got to play better,” said 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. “We’ve all got to play better on offense, especially, and it starts with me.”

The 49ers were missing some of their big offensive weapons including Deebo Samuel and rookie WR Brandon Aiyuk while George Kittle saw himself get banged up. But regardless, the 49ers need more from their quarterback, regardless the situation.
