Patrick Mahomes Paid To Have Arrowhead Stadium Be Used As A Voting Site

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback played a large role in making Arrowhead Stadium a polling location on Election Day by helping to pay for voting machines.

Chiefs president Mark Donovan on Tuesday told reporters that the idea of voting at Arrowhead came up in a meeting, “and that launched the whole campaign to try to make it a reality.”

Patrick Mahomes asked the Chiefs to turn Arrowhead Stadium into an Election Day voting site, but the election board said no due to a lack of voting machines.

Instead of giving up, Mahomes bought new machines — splitting the "six-figure investment" with the Chiefs.

Arrowhead was among several stadiums and arenas that opened as polling sites on Tuesday as record number of Americans came out to vote in the presidential election, but originally got some pushback as election board officials said there were not enough machines.

Several Chiefs players, coaches and employees, including Andy Reid, cast their ballot at Arrowhead on Tuesday as well as Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas.
