This is an awesome gesture by the Carolina Panthers.
Ron Rivera was the head coach of the Panthers from 2011-19, finishing his tenure with a 76-63 record and a Super Bowl appearance. Rivera left a strong mark on the organization which has led the Panthers to honor their former coach prior to the kickoff of today’s game against the Washington Football Team:
Rivera, who had been fighting squamous cell carcinoma in a lymph node in his neck, competed his cancer treatments earlier this season. He remarkably did not miss a game while undergoing treatment, despite facing incredible fatigue and weakness.
As head coach of the Washington Football Team, Rivera has an opportunity to lock up the NFC East vs. his former team.
