Ben Roethlisberger was out of the lineup on Sunday, which forced the Steelers to start Mason Rudolph against the winless Detroit Lions.
The game was a disaster for the Steelers, who struggled to get anything going offensively. Pittsburgh ended up tying the hopeless Lions, 16-16.
Rudolph’s performance raised questions as to why Mike Tomlin kept sticking with Rudolph rather than giving third-string quarterback Dwayne Haskins a shot.
We may not know why but one reporter may have an idea why.
According to Aditi Kinkhabwala of the NFL Network, Haskins wasn’t focused ahead of the Steelers-Lions game. He was on his phone a ton and threw “lousy” pregame passes:
Washington released Haskins before the end of last season after numerous incidents similar to this. The 23-year-old made the Steelers 53-man roster back in August after an impressive offseason.
