Giants Scout “Begged” Team To Take Tom Brady During 2000 NFL Draft

When the New York Giants take on the Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night, one former scout will be sitting back on his couch saying, “I told you so.”

Raymond “Whitey” Walsh Jr., a former scout from the New York Giants told the New York Post that he begged the Giants to select Tom Brady during the 2000 NFL Draft:

“He kept making play after play, and he was so accurate,” Walsh recalls. “He knew what he wanted to do, and he was very careful to throw to the right guy. It would’ve been nice to go to practice to find out if he could throw the out-cut, because if that stays in the air too long, that goes the other way. But when I wrote my report, I included Brady with the prospects.”

Walsh retired in 2011 but was on hand to see the New York Giants beat Tom Brady twice in the Super Bowl but one has to imagine what life would’ve been like had Walsh gotten his wish and Brady was drafted by Big Blue.
