Panthers Held Team Kicking Tryouts After Kicker Zane Gonzalez Got Injured Pregame

The situations the Panthers found themselves in prior to Sunday’s game against the Bills is nothing short of bizarre.

Carolina’s kicker Zane Gonzalez injured himself in pregame warmups, going down with a quad injury during a practice kick.

Without a backup kicker on the roster, the Panthers literally held kicking tryouts from position players prior to the game to see if anyone would give them some semblance of a kicker with Gonzalez sidelined.

Among those who participated was backup QB PJ Walker.

Head coach Matt Rhule ultimately decided to go without a field goal kicker and used their punter as a place kicker.
