Cleveland Browns fans are not happy, and they’re letting their team’s owner know it…albeit, in a criminal way.
During Sunday’s disastrous collapse to the New York Jets at FirstEnergy Stadium, footage that was taken by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero caught one fan in the stands hurling a bottle at Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, who was on the field near the entrance tunnel at the time.
The video captures the Jets’ game-winning touchdown from Joe Flacco to rookie wideout Garrett Wilson. Then, you can see Pelissero pan over to Haslam, who gets hit in the leg with a bottle, then points into the stands towards the section where it came from.
While the fan wasn’t caught at the time, the Browns have informed Pelissero that they’ve identified the culprit and plan to ban him from the stadium.
The Browns have been a laughingstock for a while now, and while there have been glimmers of hope in recent years, this loss to the Jets — during which they blew a 13 point lead with two minutes remaining — is just the latest in a long line of embarrassing moments for this franchise.
Of course, these types of losses don’t give you the right to dangerously throw things at your 68-year-old owner. The Browns have a quick turnaround as they host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football in Week 3.
