The Carson Wentz era, if you want to even call it that, in Washington is over.
The Commanders have released the veteran QB amid major changes to the offensive side of the ball, mainly the hiring of former Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who will take over as Washington’s play caller next season.
The move leaves the door for the Commanders to either move forward with Taylor Heinicke, drat a QB, or most likely, go after a veteran free agent like Derek Carr or Jimmy Garoppolo to pair with a strong roster already in place.
Releasing Wentz savs the Commanders more than $25 million in cap space.
