The situation involving Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts continues to get uglier and uglier.
The All-Pro running back has left the Colts training camp to continue to rehab his ankle injury away from the team, according to a report from ESPN on Tuesday.
Taylor, who’s been in a contract dispute with the Colts, was not in attendance at Tuesday’s practice even though injured players are typically expected to be on the field for each workout.
Taylor has been on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) since reporting to training camp on July 27th. The Colts say the decision to have offseason ankle surgery has caused Taylor to miss time, but ESPN reports that Taylor also has complained of back and hamstring tightness.
It’s clear at this point that Taylor is seeking a contract extension and doesn’t feel the need to take part in any team activities until he gets a new deal or gets traded to a team that will offer him a lucrative contract that he’s seeking.
Taylor lead the league in rushing in 2021 with 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns. His 3,841 rush yards since entering the league in 2020 ranks fourth in the NFL and his 33 rushing touchdowns is tied for second.
