A New Hampshire father of two has tragically died after an incident at Gillette Stadium during the New New England Patriots Sunday night football game against the Miami Dolphins.
Dale Mooney, 53, was punched in the face and knocked unconscious by a Dolphins fans, according to a witness. Mooney was treated at the scene by EMTs before being rushed to the hospital after what had been described as an “apparent medical event,” but was pronounced dead shortly before midnight.
“The Dolphins fan walks over and clearly punches him in the face,” Joey Kilmartin, of Nashua, New Hampshire, told MassLive. “(He) gets knocked out and you can tell right away he’s not OK.”
Kilmartin told the news outlet that Mooney also had gotten into a physical confrontation with other fans toward the end of the fourth quarter.
Here’s video of the tragic event:
Lisa Mooney, his wife, stated she was told that her husband was being taunted by several Dolphins fans during the game, leading up to an alleged physical altercation in the 300s section of the stadium. She believes footage captured at Gillette will prove that her husband did not throw a single punch.
Lisa told Boston 25 that, “According to stadium footage, Dale never threw a punch.”
“Numb. I just feel numb,” his wife, Lisa Mooney, said. “I just can’t even believe this is for real.”
Dale was the father of two adult sons. Lisa Mooney said Dale was a season ticket holder for 30 years.
The investigation is ongoing.
