BREAKING: Broncos Are Releasing DE Randy Gregory One Year After Giving Him A 5-Year, $70 Million Contract

The Denver Broncos have released defensive end Randy Gregory on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The request for release came from Gregory’s representatives, per Schefter. There was a meeting between coach Sean Payton, general manager George Paton and owner/CEO Greg Pinner to discuss Gregory’s contract and playing time and all parties decided a parting of ways was the west way to go.

The Broncos signed the 30-year-old to a five-year, $70 million contract in March of 2022.  His $14 million base salary this season and another $5 million next season are fully guaranteed.

Gregory was benched this past week vs Chicago Bears and replaced by second-year outside linebacker Nik Bonitto. Gregory played 33 snaps Sunday and finished with three tackles and one quarterback hit. He has just nine tackles in four games this season and one sack.

Gregory has never played a full season in his career because of injuries as well as 54 games of suspensions for violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. He has never started more than 11 games in a season and never finished with more than six sacks.
