Dick Butkus, an all-time great player for the Chicago Bears has died at the age of 80, TMZ reports.
According to TMZ Sports, the paramedics responded to a call for a medical emergency at Butkus’ residence in Malibu (CA) Thursday afternoon. Butkus was pronounced dead at the scene due to cardiac arrest.
Butkus was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1965 and spent his entire professional career with his hometown team. During his time in the NFL, he earned multiple awards, including two Defensive Player of the Year.
The Bears retired his No. 51 jersey in 1994.
