Cameras Caught Referee Telling Chiefs Player To Put Helmet Back On Instead Of Penalizing Him For It vs Vikings

There’s been a lot of chatter on social media lately that the Kansas City Chiefs have been getting a lot of favorable calls or non-calls. That perception won’t change after what happened on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Chiefs beat the Vikings, 27-20, at U.S. Bank Stadium in a close game that came down to the wire. The Vikings were down by that score with under five minutes left and went for it on 4th and 12. The Chiefs sent pressure and Cousins threw the ball up in the end zone. There was a lot of contract and the officials threw a penalty flag for pass interference. After huddling up, they decided to pick up the flag.

The replay showed Chiefs CB L’Jarius Snead made a lot of contact with Vikings WR Jordan Addison, hence why the flag was thrown. But there was no explanation on why it was picked up. What made matters worse was Snead proceeded to take his helmet off to protest the call, which by rule is an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Rather than flagging him for the penalty, cameras caught the referee telling Snead to put his “helmet back on.”

The NFL really has to explain what happened here. Why was the pass interference flag picked up? Why was Snead not flagged for taking his helmet off?
