Brock Purdy Unlikely To Play In Bengals Game After Suffered Concussion On ‘Tush Push’ Play vs Vikings

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that starting quarterback Brock Purdy has entered the concussion protocol after showing symptoms on the plane ride back to the Bay Area following the team’s loss on Monday Night Football to the Vikings.

“He started getting symptoms on the plane,” 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “We finally found that out when we landed. We were all pretty asleep, but then he got all checked up yesterday and now he’s in the protocol.”

The Niners don’t know exactly when the concussion occurred but Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio tweeted out a video on Wednesday showing Purdy taking a pretty significant shot to the head during the infamous ‘tush push’ play.

The played occurred on 3rd and 1 in the 4th quarter with 7:08 remaining in the game:

With the short turnaround, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that it is highly unlikely that Purdy will be able to be cleared in time for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals:

If Purdy isn’t cleared, the team will turn to backup quarterback Sam Darnold to start.
