Typically, sticky substances are policed heavily in the MLB, but rarely does it get policed in the NFL.
That all changed after Monday night after a close-up shot of the Broncos punter Jamie Dixon’s hand during the game-winning field goal attempt.
Dixon appeared to have something on the back of his hand as he caught and held the ball for placekicker Wil Lutz, who punched the ball through to take down the Buffalo Bills with a 24-22 final score.
The NFL banned sticky substances, such as Stickum, back in 1981. The rule — known as “The Lester Hayes Rule” — prohibits “adhesive or slippery substances on the body, equipment, or uniform of any player.”
For now, all of these sticky substance allegations are just speculation. We’ll see if the NFL investigates the situation.
