REPORT: Cowboys Believed To “Be In Play” For Bill Belichick

Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots agreed to part ways last week, ending an amazing 24-year run.

Belichick is free to sign with any NFL team and while there hasn’t been much movement on teams interviewing him yet, that will likely change depending on what happens this weekend.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Dallas Cowboys are “very much in play” to hire Bill Belichick if they suffer yet another disappointing playoff exit this year.

“Yes, the Cowboys are believed to be in play. There’s a long history of respect and admiration between Bill Belichick and Jerry Jones. They have a great team there. Belichick could just go in and coach it to places they haven’t been in a very long time.”

For Bill Belichick, don't get too caught up in linking him to the non-playoff teams. There are 14 teams left. 13 of them will eventually lose. One of them (like, as we've been saying for weeks, the Cowboys) might decide Belichick is what they need to get over the hump.

The Dallas Cowboys host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET in the NFC Wild Card Game. A loss will only increase the Belichick to Cowboys rumors.
