There will be a lot of NFL stadiums that will be hosting World Cup games in 2026 but with a twist.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, FIFA will be changing the names of the stadiums and will not go by their normal names for the event. This is because the soccer federation bans stadium names from companies that aren’t sponsors of FIFA.
Instead of a stadium like “MetLife Stadium” going by its regular name, it’s going to go by New York or New Jersey Stadium. It’ll be the same for AT&T Stadium in Dallas as it will go by Dallas Stadium.
The name change will be temporary and just for the event.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to begin on Jun. 11 and go through Jul. 19 and will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States. It’ll be the first time the event will feature 48 teams instead of the usual 32.
