Matt Rhule Claims The Panthers Blocked Him From Drafting Brock Purdy (VIDEO)

Brock Purdy was the final selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, earning him the honors of being called “Mr. Irrelevant.”

31 teams passed on the Iowa State product, multiple times, until the 49ers used the final draft pick to select him and the rest is history.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule, who was the former head coach with the Carolina Panthers, says he saw enough in Purdy to use a draft pick on him, but that he was vetoed by his front office at the time.

“I think Brock Purdy is an amazing player because I played against him at Iowa State. When I was in the draft room at Carolina, I brought his name up. I said, ‘Hey guys, he should be on the draft board.’ I got vetoed on that one.”

Rhule was the Panthers head coach from 2020 to 2022. He had an overall record of 11-27 and never made the playoffs. This past season the Panthers selected Bryce Young No. 1 overall but had they [allegedly] listened to Rhule, they would’ve had Purdy as their franchise quarterback.
