Brandon Aiyuk And His Family Are Hinting That His Time With 49ers Is Over Following Super Bowl 58 Loss

The San Francisco 49ers are still picking up the pieces of yet another devastating Super Bowl loss and are trying to figure out what the next step is for this franchise that is just struggling to get over that hump.

Additionally for them, the could be facing a situation with a very unhappy wide receiver. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk posted a cryptic Instagram Story with the message “Don’t forget what got you there.”

To make matters worse, Aiyuk’s girlfriend and brother both seemed to have indicated that his team with San Francisco could be over:

Aiyuk’s post is very cryptic but the two from his girlfriend and brother are pretty straight forward. It could be frustration with his contract situation, Aiyuk is set to play on his fifth year option in 2024 at $14,124,000.

The 2020 first-round pick caught 75 passes for a career-high 1,342 yards along with seven touchdowns in the regular season. Unfortunately, the regular season success didn’t transfer over to the postseason as Aiyuk had just nine receptions over the 49ers’ three playoff games. In the Super Bowl, he hauled in three passes on six targets for 49 yards.

Aiyuk met with reporters on Tuesday and was asked about whether or not he’d be a Niner in 2024. He didn’t exactly commit to being in San Fran going forward:

At some point this offseason Aiyuk and the 49ers will likely discuss a contract extension. If talks don’t go anywhere, the 25-year-old could become a clear trade candidate for teams looking for a wide receiver.
