REPORT: Patriots Are ‘Divided’ On QB Mac Jones Future With Team

The New England Patriots are entering the offseason facing a big decision that could impact them for years to come. Will the organization move off former first round pick Mac Jones and draft a quarterback with the No. 3 pick or do they stick with the Alabama product?

The Patriots new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt met with reporters on Wednesday and said “everything is on the table.” He also discussed giving a “clean slate” to everyone.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, high-ranking Patriots officials blamed Bill Belichick’s personnel decisions for “sabotaging Jones’ development and crushing his confidence.” However, not everyone supports giving the former No. 15 pick another chance.

“Some within the organization seem hopeful Jones can make a U-turn in New England,” Reiss wrote. “But that hardly seems unanimous, which means Jones would have to win over many people.”

Mac Jones is entering 2024 in the final year of his contract. The Patriots won’t be picking up his fifth year option and with the Patriots having the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, it’s very much on the table for the Patriots to select its quarterback of the future in April.
